Musical way
Since the age of seven the magic of sounds and music have been in my life. I began to study the piano then and later at the age of 27, the electronic world of keyboards and computers.
At the age of 18 a clairvoyant predicted that I would become a well known composer. She saw me surrounded by all kinds of instruments, synthesisers, computers and composing music that heals, calms, brings well-being and thus harmonises body and mind. At that time I played the piano and the guitar for my own enjoyment. I did not even know how to connect a keyboard to a computer, so how could I become a composer of harmonising music ? I left the clairvoyant's prediction in a corner of my mind and did not thinking about it any more.
In 1990 I recorded my first CD in a Parisian studio. It seemed to happen all by itself, with simplicity and wonder. Some months later, at an alternative medicine exhibition in Paris, I met my first distributor who specialised in selling relaxation music. This is how my musical career started
At this time a new direction opened up for me and I became interested in the therapeutic possibilities of sound and music. After more than 15 years of research and study I have learned, with humbleness, to use sounds and frequencies therapeutically in order to promote harmony.
Once upon a time there was a composer called Michel Pépé...
(interview by Pascal Rivière, journalist & Musico- therapist)
Pascal Rivière : The titles of your albums are poetic and reveal a complete programme
what are your sources of inspiration?
Michel Pépé : The artist, more than just being an composer, is above all a channel. Nothing belongs to him, but everything that surrounds him is at his disposal and can be a source of inspiration. It seems to me essential to lead a harmonious life, to have a healthy vision and an open heart
I look at the world, photograph it and express this as music. To compose is to be at one with the music and with the universe.
Pascal Rivière : Why did you choose relaxation music ?
Michel Pépé : Because relaxation music avoids harmonic tensions and favours calm and serene atmospheres, which for me reflect a new life style, a new consciousness. This type of music is also active. The effect of such vibrations are scientifically proved : they relax the nervous system, eliminate stress, bring oxygen to the cells, harmonise the two hemispheres of the brain, etc. It also works on a spiritual level in harmonising our subtle energy centres and our energy fields. It helps the circulation of Chi or vital energy. When the composer has a conscious approach, this will show in his music and the listener will benefit from it. I and my artist friends who compose this style of music are happy to contribute to increasing peace and harmony thanks to this music .
Pascal Rivière : One finds in your music various kinds of musical atmospheres, from classical music, symphonic music, Celtic music, sacred, medieval, Andalusian , Oriental music, Asian, Indian, Japanese, Tibetan and even futuristic influences. Where does all this musical richness come to you from ?
Michel Pépé : A famous composer once said that music is a universal language. I am aware of being part of a large planetary collectivity. I wanted to bring together various musical cultures since we all belong to a great human family regardless of the colour of our skin or religion.
Pascal Rivière : Is composing for you like a meditation ?
Michel Pépé : What is meditation, if not a way of being rather than of doing ? If meditation is becoming aware of what is happening here and now and letting silence be part of you, then yes, composing is for me a meditation. When I create, I feel I am in a state of openness and receptivity. I welcome what comes. Inspiration flows freely when one is in harmony with oneself and all that surrounds us.
